Reader Profile

Website Flatplan

My website will continue the simplistic house style that has been shown throughout my magazines. The mast head will stay the same but will be in black and will be placed in the top, centre. Also, I will include five tabs which link to fashion and I have got inspiration of these tabs from my research of other fashion magazine website, Having a social media option is vital for a fashion website page to ensure that reader are able to access the page on many platforms as possible and it is very common to have this option on many fashion websites such as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. I will have one large image in the centre on the page and more images located underneath my top stories.

Front Cover & Contents Page Flatplan

This is the flat plan for my Winter edition fashion magazine. The name of my magazine is refined and I got inspiration from my wordle to have that as the masthead. The masthead will be written in serif font as it looks more sleek and chic. I would like my model to be promoting her clothing in the centre of the magazine to draw all the attention directly at it and would like my model to look directly at the camera to catch the reader's attention.

The typography I will be using for the captions and subheadings will be bold and in all capital letter as I have seen that to be common fashion magazines. My model for this magazine will have curly hair and so her last name will be 'locks' to be a sort of anchor to the image. I would like the mise-en-scene to be in a location with street lights and possibly near a river to give a sort of cold, misty atmosphere showing the change from autumn to winter.

For the location, I am considering going near the River Thames or Battersea Park as it has trees and a river with street light across the pavement.

For the contents page I will have my mastehead in the same typography but located on the top right of the page and in a smaller size font. On the left underneath that will be the month rather than just writing 'contents page' as it is not necessary or common to do so (as seen from my research).
The image will be placed on the right and will be in a similar location to the front cover to show a sense of continuity but will not be exactly the same. The clothing on the model will also be different.
On the contents page I will be providing information that is relevant to current affairs within the fashion industry along the left side of the page and also just underneath the image. I may also include a sticker to inform the 'top 10 fashion trends'.

My second magazine will be an Autumn edition and will be located around an area full of nature (plants, trees, flowers, grass, hay etc). As you can see the house style will be the same due to the position of the masthead and the typography being the same. However, the theme is different as it is an autumn theme as has a most elegant, classy feeling to the cover. The types of location I am thinking for this front cover is a lavender field or Richmond park as it will full of wildlife and plants.

Again you can see the house style of the magazine is the same but because of the change of theme, the way the presentation of the contents page is slightly different. For example, the position of the masthead is different and the image is located in a different place. Also the style of image and fashion will be completely different.

Inspiration for my front cover flat- plan

This is similar to what I would like to present in my Winter fashion magazine. I wish to adopt key factors such as a dark, wintry looking background with a model in the centre, modelling the clothing in a way that it is showcased as the most important thing to be seen. I would like to promote the fashion on the model rather than the model herself. In addition, another thing I would like to use (which I have seen in most fashion magazines) is the typography being white for most of the captions. I have also seen a pattern from my Fashion Magazine Photography Investigation that magazines mainly use all bold, capital letters for their caption, so that is another element that I will be using.

For the Autumn edition, I quite like a background linked with nature such as the magazine above. I think the use of grass gives an autumn vibe and I would like to adopt elements such as having some sort of nature in the mese-en-scene.

Planning the Fashion Website

After looking at Vogue's page I tried to look at my options for creating my own. To successfully make a realistic Fashion Magazine Website, I compared my website plan to Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. This way I have more than one magazine to get inspiration from.

Using Wix I have been inspired and informed on how to create a sophisticated and professional looking magazine website.

Celebrity Representation

Initially I tried to create a 'Mix book' and attempted to upload it however the website no longer provides an embed code to upload it on my blog. So instead I decided to print screen my 'mix book' and upload it on google slides. The web link of my mix book however is provided below:

Fashion Magazine Photography Investigation

Completing this investigation was very helpful to me as a I could gather patterns and similarities between different fashion magazines and be able to use them for my own cleverly.

Fashion Photography Investigation

I have created a voice note discussing the fashion magazine and the way the lighting, pose, location and colour is like on this front cover. I have left a print screen of the magazine below:

Investigating Bauer, the magazine house

Case Study of a Fashion Magazine

I have started to deconstruct Fashion Magazines to help understand the features on it and to be able to identify what is common on a Fashion Magazine and be able to adopt those elements on my own if I believe it is suitable.

I then deconstructed the contents page as well to be able to identify the continuity from the front cover to the contents page and be able to see what similarities and differences there is. This will support me when I need to create my own as I will need to ensure that there is an element of continuity between the two pages but in a subtle way.

Deconstruction of Fashion Magazine Website

To increase my knowledge on a Fashion Magazine Website, I have deconstructed Vogue's website as I feel very inspired by their page and wish to have some similar features on my website as theirs.

Deconstruction of Fashion Magazine Front Cover

This is the first magazine front cover that I have deconstructed. This will inform me on elements of a fashion magazine and possibly the reason behind certain elements of being there.
